- What if scent could notify you of a missed call?
Have you ever considered smelling your phone's ringtone? Probably not. However, this quirky idea may soon become commonplace. iScent is a diffuser that releases fragrance every time someone calls or texts you.
A new type of notification – a smoke notification
iScent is a small, stylish device resembling a lock. It's compatible with iPhone and Android 4.4. Whenever someone calls, sends a text message, or posts on Facebook or Twitter, it releases a scented mist. Its creators were fascinated by the history of ancient China, where soldiers warned each other of danger with smoke signals.
Easy to use
Using the diffuser doesn't require any complicated steps. Simply configure your device with the dedicated app. Then, select the type of notification you want to receive. These can include: incoming call, text message, Facebook, Gmail, email, Twitter, Google+, Skype, calendar, WeChat, or WhatsApp. For the iScent to release fragrance, make sure it's filled with essential oil or scented water.
Party mode
For those who aren't satisfied with inhaling the aroma only when their phone rings, there's a programmable party mode. The scented mist effect will enhance any party. The device works when you talk, sing, or even shout.
The prototype version of the iScent was available in white, gray, and brown. This was because fundraising for the project ended differently than the authors had envisioned.
