- What does IKEA smell like? We'll find out in 2019.
Ikea has partnered with Ben Gorham, founder of the Swedish perfume brand Byredo. The tangible results of this fragrance collaboration will be revealed in just two years.
The brand itself is quite secretive when it comes to revealing details. Both companies will create a collection of something. What? No one is revealing. It will definitely smell good.
Fragrances are everywhere. Yet we rarely think of them in the context of aesthetics and design. IKEA and Gorham want to open consumers to new ways of displaying fragrances in their homes.
"I know most people associate it with visiting Grandma's house—maybe her perfume, flowers, or her cooking. Scent is a very important part of a home, creating a sense of comfort and security. It's something we rarely talk about. Our design forces this—we encourage people to think about scent," explains Gorham.
Gorham founded the Swedish perfume house 10 years ago after a chance encounter with a perfumer.
I was fascinated by the possibilities offered by scent. I asked him to translate my memories into different scents. This new interest of mine began to develop into an obsession.
Ikea and Gorham want to open people up to fragrance as something truly exciting. Something that communicates emotions and tells stories about people, culture, and design.
What could this collaboration between the two brands lead to? IKEA itself suggests it could be an aromatic waft of the well-known Swedish cinnamon rolls.
