How scents enrich our lives

How scents enrich our lives
Smell – the most powerful sense, yet still underappreciated compared to sight or hearing. In a survey of young people aged 16 to 22, 53% said they would rather lose their sense of smell than their laptop or cell phone. Yet scents are a unique treasure. The sense of smell differs from the other senses because it is directly connected to the limbic system, the part of the brain responsible for memory, perception, and emotions. The other senses first go to the analytical part of the brain before taking a detour to the emotional sphere. This is why smell is superior to the other senses. Because we unconsciously sense smell with every breath, we can take our sense of smell for granted . Science provides increasing evidence that smell plays a much more significant role in influencing our feelings and decisions. We interact with the world and make decisions based on information provided by our five senses. It's undeniable that the vast majority of our interactions are made through sight and hearing. But what about smell and scent? What do we owe to smell? Mood – It's been proven that sensing certain scents can improve your mood. Citrus will evoke joy and excitement. Lavender will reduce anxiety. Vanilla will calm and soothe. Peppermint will add a sense of alertness. Better results and efficiency – scent can improve athletic performance (peppermint, jasmine), cognitive performance (rosemary), stimulate the brain and improve concentration (mint). Additionally, it increases work efficiency ( lemon ), promotes more efficient knowledge acquisition, and when applied correctly, the number of errors is reduced. Better memory – smell is the only sense directly connected to the brain's learning and memory center. Smell triggers long-forgotten memories, reminding us of wonderful vacations at a seaside resort, and helps students memorize material faster and more effectively. Teamwork – in the presence of a pleasant aroma (citrus, baked goods), people are kinder and more likely to help others. One experiment showed that by spreading the scent in prisons, convicts refrained from violence. A marketing tool , scent stimulates sales . It entices customers. It arouses desire for a specific product. Furthermore, scent increases customer loyalty to a brand. So next time you're in a public place, take a minute to look away from your phone and take a deep breath. Appreciate the smells and the people around you.
