Freshly baked bread, homemade cake and freshly cut grass – these are the favorite smells of Poles.
For nearly 60% of Poles, freshly baked bread is the most pleasant smell. The aroma of homemade cake came in second (49.3%). Third place was the scent of freshly cut grass (44.9%). Poles also have pleasant associations with the aroma of their favorite tea (24.3%).
Poles like scents that remind them of carefree childhood years and relaxing at home.
- It turns out that both city dwellers and rural residents enjoy scents that evoke carefree childhoods and evoke associations with relaxing in the comfort of home. <...> The scent of books, homemade cake, or favorite tea is associated with savoring the pleasures of everyday life. The differences between large cities (56.5%) and villages (60.2%) are small.
The preferences of Poles differ slightly from those of the British, who also love the smell of fresh bread and
cut grass .
The study was conducted by PBS DGA on a representative, random number of 1,076 Poles aged 15 and over.
