Forest scents – in the bosom of nature and at home
A forest. What does it remind you of? Probably clean, fresh air. A peaceful, beautiful setting. For many reasons, we enjoy being outdoors, amid meadows and forests. But did you know that evergreens, such as cypress, have been endowed with certain health benefits? Japanese scientists have discovered that nature's scents help reduce stress, lower blood pressure, and increase the growth of anti-cancer proteins in the bloodstream. Substances secreted by plants that are beneficial to health Associate Professor Qing Li from the Department of Health at a medical school in Tokyo analyzed phytoncides—natural substances released by trees and other plants. He studied a group of people who had gone for a walk in the forest. Professor Li discovered a link between increased exposure to phytoncides and better health. The evidence is so strong that a growing number of research institutes are undertaking similar studies, including the International Society of Forest Medicine (ISFM). Professor Li is the Secretary General of the Society. Essential oils as a substitute for nature But how can we achieve these benefits if we don't have the opportunity to connect with nature? Many of us don't have time for walks in the woods. Others live in urban areas where access to forest clearings is difficult. Those who can enjoy open spaces at any time suffer from allergies. By using essential oils extracted from plants, we can replicate the benefits Professor Li describes in his study. Relaxing fragrance compositions Scent marketing specialists provide a range of essential oils to those interested. They design special fragrance compositions to promote relaxation and reduce stress. Essential oils from alpine plants, citrus fruits, and evergreens are environmentally safe. They can be used at home, in spas, medical centers, and in various commercial settings. Cold diffusion and essential oils By diffusing essential oils into the air using cold diffusion, their natural properties are guaranteed to remain intact. Traditional burners and plugs heat the aromas and then disperse them into the air. This aromatization method alters the nature of the essential oils, often turning them into a thick residue. This viscous composition has nothing to do with the beneficial aromatherapeutic compounds. Cold diffusion preserves the oils' healing properties.
