- This perfume will activate sweat
A novel method for producing perfume – the more you sweat, the better you smell. Scientists in Belfast have isolated molecules that allow fragrance to be released upon contact with moisture.
Researchers from Queen's University Belfast confirm that this is the first experiment of its kind involving the release of odor from sweat. In their work, they used the raw scent of an ionic liquid (a liquid salt), which has no odor at all. They combined this liquid with a fragrance. The resulting substance releases its
aroma only when exposed to water.
Co-author Nimal Gunaratne of Queen's University Ionic Liquid Laboratories calls this substance a "pro-odor." It's like a lead mass that prevents the fragrance from escaping. He compares the water to scissors that cut the string connecting the perfume's scent to the "pro-odor."
Innovative perfumes also have the ability to eliminate unpleasant odors released through sweat. The chemicals responsible for unpleasant sweat odors are attracted to the ionic liquid. Once they bind, they lose their potency.
Scientists are already working with a company to develop product ideas based on their research.
