Love garlic? We know how to get rid of its unpleasant odor.
You've probably dealt with this problem on your own many times. Recently, we have scientific confirmation: apples, lettuce, and mint can help eliminate problematic breath odor after consuming garlic. However, not all forms are suitable. What does this mean? Raw apples, lettuce, and fresh mint are the best options for eliminating the unpleasant garlic odor. Researchers from Ohio State University analyzed various products that could reduce the garlic aroma. They tested raw and roasted apples, apple juice, raw and cooked lettuce, fresh mint, mint juice, water, and green tea. They gave these products to participants who chewed 3 grams of garlic for 25 seconds. Apples and lettuce proved 50% more effective than water , while fresh mint had an even higher effect. Roasted apples, cooked lettuce, and apple and mint juices also reduced the effects of garlic, but less effectively. Green tea fared the worst, having no effect on improving breath at all. Garlic contains many volatile substances that are responsible for bad breath. Raw foods are best suited to combat these substances, as they contain enzymes and phenolic compounds that neutralize the garlic's aroma. Foods that are heat-processed are deprived of enzymes, and therefore less effective in combating bad breath.
