- Struggling with poor air quality in your home? Essential oils can help.
Can being indoors be more dangerous than being outdoors? It turns out it is. The air quality in your home matters. The truth is, it's five times worse than outside and at least 2.5 times higher than the World Health Organization's recommended levels.
That's not a mistake. You read that correctly. Pollution enters our homes through ventilation systems. Exhaust fumes, allergens, fungi, pesticides, and chimney smoke. But that's not all. Sick Building Syndrome threatens your home. What is it?
Sick Building Syndrome
This "ailment" occurs when someone indoors complains of health ailments such as eye irritation, headaches, nausea, difficulty concentrating, dry cough, fatigue, allergies, asthma, or even cardiovascular problems. These ailments are caused by poor air quality. This is influenced by: chemical pollutants emitted by building materials, furnishings, office equipment, and cleaning products; pollutants introduced with outdoor air; biological pollutants such as bacteria, viruses, and molds; inadequate ventilation; reduced fresh air supply; and human and animal dander. How can we cope?
Airing and air fresheners
Your first instinct will be to open the windows and thoroughly air out the rooms. However, this is only a temporary solution, especially in large, crowded cities. Chemical air fresheners and other artificially produced cleaning products may also be ineffective in the long run and may not live up to expectations. So what's the best way to improve the air quality in your home?
Natural methods
The best solution is to install a professional air purifier. However, it's worth trying a much cheaper alternative first – natural essential oils. A few drops of lemon or other citrus oil will add freshness. You can wipe countertops, shelves, and cabinets with a cloth soaked in them.
Orange or bergamot oils are suitable for cleaning sinks, refrigerators, stoves, and shower stalls. Essential oils are 100% natural, free from artificial additives and chemicals. This natural composition gives them antibacterial and antiviral properties. You won't have to worry about irritating odors or irritated skin after cleaning.
