- From the series: what people won't come up with – clothes with the scent of whiskey
In Scotland, they produce whiskey-scented clothing. The fabric is commissioned by two famous brands.
Scientists from Edinburgh's Heriot Watt University have undertaken the development of a whisky-scented fabric. They are commissioned by Johnnie Walker Black Label and Harris Tweed – whisky and hand-woven tweed from the Outer Hebrides.
The Aqua Alba aroma is hidden in microcapsules within the wool weave. It faithfully captures the scent of whiskey. The fabric is unique in that it withstands dry cleaning. It can be washed without fear of the whiskey scent dissipating as the fabric is cleaned.
University experts see a bright future for the fabric. They're already calling it intelligent fabric.
The fabric was designed by Milanese artist Angelos Bratis. The finished tweed will be distributed primarily in Belgium, Germany, and Greece.
