- The Smell of the Apocalypse – Perfumes for the Brave
Want to know when the end of the world will come? Don't look in vain for the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Instead, start smelling. A pair of British visual artists have created a fragrance that smells just like the one described in the Book of Revelation.
Apocalypse is the signature fragrance of Thomson and Craighead – a pair of artists who utilize sound, video, and the possibilities offered by the internet in their work. They produced a special, limited edition
perfume , which they presented last year at a London exhibition.
Guests at the show were presented with a sample of the perfume, whose composition draws on the olfactory elements described in the Book of Revelation. This scent evokes terrifying visions of the end of the world.
Where desire mixes with disgust
According to the artists, it's a product of the current world, which feeds us with fear. This unique perfume is a blend of four elements: blood, represented by aldehydes, lactones, and metallic materials. Storm and thunder, composed of ozone and earthy scents. Earth, personified by the aromas of patchouli and oakmoss. The final element is the ingredients of fire, primarily notes of cumin.
